Interviews and Articles

Two articles by the Seam webmeister on Seam's trip back to Korea in June of 2000, as well as the current state of Asian American indie rock. (May 16, 2000)

Ear of the Dragon San Francisco Bay Guardian article. (May 10, 1995)

Seam in Seoul. San Francisco Bay Guardian article written by the inimitable Ben Kim. Covers the Korean indie rock scene in depth you probably won't find anywhere else in the States. (12-8-99)

Seam's Korea Move.Chicago Reader article on Seam's sojourn to Seoul. (12-3-99)

WEIV Korea interview.  A superb interview covers Sooyoung's family background, the Chicago scene, Korean independent music, and more.

Hit it Or Quit It interview is guaranteed to make you laugh, I promise.

Drooling Seam fan and webmeister Kerwin So backs Sooyoung Park into a corner and asks him every question he could possibly think of.  Mmm... long and satisfying. May 9, 1999.

Yello Kitty interview is literally one of the best interviews with Sooyoung I've ever read.

Relicc interview from 1997 explores what others see in SYP. Another must-read-- serious.

No Idea fanzine interview, circa 1994-- a scanned image. And pretty darned funny.  (Thanks to Asiantrash)

Koreatown Crawl.  September 3, 1998 Metromix article on Korean nightlife in Chicago.

1999 Chicago Asian American Showcase.  July 6, 1999 Metromix review.

"Don't Get Around Much Anymore."  Chicago Reader, 11.6.98.  A must-read for any fan wondering what took the new album so long to be released.  Includes a nifty photo.

An interview with Sooyoung from the zine MILK.  (Thanks to Tim Hsu.  ;)

Five questions for Sooyoung Park. (ULTRA Magazine, September 3, 1998. Also, a station call.) Sooyoung hates printing lyrics, don't read them.

A September 1995 article in Detour magazine in which Sooyoung discusses the issue of Asian American role models.

An article by Todd Inoue from the San Jose Mercury News, May 22, 1998.  Very informative: has background on some of the new songs, an interesting tidbit about the last European tour, and more details on Sooyoung's ever-busy life.

A great ConcertDirect interview with Sooyoung from December 17, 1997.  Gear, new bands, labels, food-- it's all here.  Don't miss this.

A nice, beefy 1995 Pandemonium article that I typed up.  Gives some insights into Sooyoung's personal history.  (Thanks to Asiantrash.  ;)

Heckler magazine interviewed Sooyoung & Reg about songwriting & commercial radio.

Brian typed up an Alternative Press interview with Sooyoung  on equipment, influences, & geekoid tunings.  Maybe this will help you figure out some tablature.

Todd Inoue, in a November 1995 interview with Sooyoung, discusses major labels & the indie rock lifespan.

UltraNet(?) in Belgium has a kooky ABC Interview with Sooyoung. Highlights include favorite bands, "Hey Latasha," & lots of other stuff.

The Los Angeles Loyolan did an interview with all the members of Seam, and they wax philosophic about bands, touring, & perfect happiness.

DeclarAsians of Independence.  Despite the title, this is a superior and important article from AsianWeek about Asian Americans in independent rock music.

Yes, Janeane Garofalo likes Seam.  And a bunch of other cool bands.

China News article!  Includes a blurb about the status of Fortune 4. (2-12-99)
